Lunch: Today we have a special after church luncheon to welcome John and Sue Steendam back from Malawi. Please join us if you can even if you weren’t able to bring something to share. It is all about joining in and celebrating community.
Evergreens: Come along this Wednesday 5 th October , at 1:30 pm for a chat with John and Sue about their experiences in Malawi this year, followed by afternoon tea and a time of fellowship. All welcome.
Annual Men’s Breakfast: Our annual breakfast will be held at the Eltham Gateway at 8.30 am on Saturday 5th November . Our keynote speaker will be Bernie Power speaking on Islam’s view of Jesus. Bernie is a lecturer with the Centre for the study of Islam and other the Faiths with the Melbourne School of Theology. He has lived most of his working life in Muslim majority countries and is one of Australia’s foremost authorities on Islam. Cost is $25 per head including an extensive full buffet breakfast. Please set aside time to attend and hear Bernie and enjoy time with other men over breakfast.
Exit Appointments: This week we have the confirmation that Andy is formally ‘exited’ to EPC. His next steps will be the licensing process through presbytery. After that he will be ready for ordination.
Stage Lights: Today we are starting an appeal for two different types of lights to enhance the stage area. Spotlights to light up the area in general, especially where the pulpit is, and LED par cans to provide a more decorative backdrop. The donation box will be available in the entrance. If donating by direct debit please put ‘lighting’ as the reference.
Marriage Enrichment: In recent weeks we have been advertising a marriage enrichment workshop. We are looking for a minimum of 4-5 couples to sign up. Cut-off date for registering is Oct 16. Please see the form on the main table in the foyer. After doing the on-line assessment ($42) we will have workshops Nov 18 & 25. If people want a more detailed explanation on any part of the survey, private follow up sessions will be available. Don, Andy and Josh are all trained to use this material. Assembly: This week the General Assembly of the PCV starts Monday evening and usually ends Thursday evening. Don and Josh will be attending.
Working Bee: This will be held on Saturday 22 nd October . A preliminary list has been displayed on the noticeboard in the hall, and on the table in the foyer. Please consider where you may be able to help.
Christmas Boxes: Thank you to those who have taken boxes for Samaritans purse Christmas child appeal. Thank you also to those who took craft items in the hall and left generous donations. The boxes are 50 cents each. Please take a pamphlet as well. The pamphlet has the information about what you can place in the boxes and also has the labels for the boxes once you have filled them. If you don’t wish to fill a box but would donate the cost of postage $9.00 it would be very much appreciated. All the filled boxes will be on display in the church on October 30.
